Hi there! I’m Rio.

I craft visual narratives with intention.

MANIFESTO

As a graphic design student with a minor in interaction design, I approach my visual designs with a keen awareness of client needs and their target audience, all while valuing experimentation and not being afraid to break creative bounds.

Although I am primarily led by design theory, I allow myself to be pulled by my innate design intuition. I utilize a wide range of image making processes and a love of the iterative process to achieve highly creative, tense-yet-harmonious, enrapturing visual designs.

As an intern at San José State University’s Humanities & Arts department, I design promotional material for plays, concerts, exhibitions, and more.

My very first project as an intern took me back to one of my favorite dystopian novels,

Here, I chose to diverge from typical surveillance state motifs to convey emotional depths.

The Sustainable Living
Academy Campaign

For this class project, the brief involved creating a three-poster series campaign for a hypothetical client seeking to promote sustainability.

Sustainable transportation.

After spending my last summer
and winter in Europe surrounded by pedestrian, cyclist, and train friendly infrastructures, my topic
of choice was obvious:

This project was a great convergence of my fine arts background and graphic design skillset; resulting detailed vector based drawings in realistic three point perspective.

Crafting Visual Narratives with Intention

With my designs, I seek to foster not only strong visual engagement between the viewer and the client, but also a lasting realization of a vibrant community with rich art, culture, and people.
